the camera project is an exploration of how children perceive their environment. this idea stems from my curiosity to imagine what it would have been like to grow up in a different part of the world. each child was provided with a one-time use camera and asked to document their lives. there were no limitations placed on what the children could or could not photograph. after shooting all of the exposures, each child was asked to write a bit about themselves and what they photographed.

this project highlights the beauty of the world that connects us to one another, a beauty that is deep and surpasses the realm of aesthetics. it also serves as a reminder that, despite cultural nuances, we are all so similar – accentuating the importance of experience and human contact. as such, the increased opportunity for this human connection, in light of the interconnectedness of contemporary society, should be continually acknowledged, appreciated, and explored.
